Use of aluminium to increase the energetic efficiency of a residential waste collecting unity

Request made by : INPAK

Innovation project conducted in 2010-2011 aiming to increase the energetic efficiency of a residential waste collecting unity. Aluminium was considered by the promoter to reduce the vehicle’s weight to increase its payload, as well as to eliminate the maintenance costs related to the paint.

The bucket and the manipulator arm are entirely manufactured in aluminium, allowing a lightering of about 1,500 kg, which, combined to a superior volume of 15%, allows a reduction of the number of trips to the landfill.

The round form of the bucket allows resisting to the internal pressure, due to the waste compaction without malformation and with minimum reinforcements. The volume is about 15% superior to an equivalent unity manufactured in steel.
